Five Signs That You Need a New Refrigerator

Docs Appliance • Jun 15, 2017

Is your food looking sad and spoiled? Is your fridge the same temperature as your house? It might be time to buy a new refrigerator. Quality refrigerators last for years so it can be hard to tell whether you need to buy a new fridge, or if it just needs a few repairs. Here are five signs that it’s time to buy a new refrigerator.

    1. Condensation

If your fridge looks like it’s sweating, something’s not right. Refrigerators have to work hard in order to balance between hot and cold. However, sweating can be a sign that your fridge is working too hard or too little. Before giving your fridge the boot, first, check the rubber sealing around the door. Sometimes the sealing goes bad, which can cause the fridge to not be able to regulate temperature. If the sealing is in good condition and the condensation continues, then it’s probably time to look for a new fridge.

    1. Hot Motor

Feeling a warm temperature whenever you put your hand on the back of the fridge is normal. However, an excessive amount of heat is an obvious sign that something is wrong with your fridge. Fridge’s coils are insulated, which should prevent you from feeling any excess heat. If you do feel excess heat, it could be that there is a problem with the coils. If, you have an older fridge, it may be better to invest in a newer fridge instead of continuing to repair a less efficient one.

    1. Freezing Freezer

Obviously, your freezer should be very cold in order to keep foods frozen. However, if you have to start chiseling your ice cream out from under a layer of ice you could have a problem. Before tossing your fridge, defrost your freezer. Once it has defrosted completely, plug it back in and monitor it for a few days. If the problem continues, it may be time to buy a new fridge.

    1. Spoiled Food

A fridges sole purpose is to keep food cold. If you notice that your groceries are spoiling quicker or your drinks aren’t getting cold, there is a good chance that something is wrong with your fridge. Instead of letting your food spoil and wasting your money, it’s time to buy a new fridge.

    1. Loud Fridge

If you can hear your fridge running from across the house, it’s not a good sign. While fridges are not the quietest appliance in the house, you should not notice your fridge running. If your fridge is making excessive noise you should call a technician. If the noise continues after the technician has looked over it, then it’s time to invest in a new fridge before this one runs away.

Refrigerators are supposed to last, so it can be hard to tell when it’s time for a new one. Sometimes a fridge just needs a little TLC to get back up and running. However, if you find yourself having to fix a new problem every couple of months, it’s probably time to get a new fridge. If you aren’t sure about replacing your refrigerator just yet, give us call.
