Is Your Refrigerator Running? 3 Signs It’s Time For A New Fridge

Docs Appliance • November 21, 2018

Does your refrigerator look like it’s sweating? Is your wine not chilling as quickly? Is your chicken parmesan turning bad faster than usual? Refrigerators give off a lot of signs when it’s time for a maintenance check. Before your fridge completely gives out and you are left with spoiled food, it will usually give you some indicators that it’s in need of some TLC. Here are three signs that it’s time for refrigerator repair or a new fridge.

Your foods are going bad faster

Your fridge has one purpose: to keep food cold. If you find that your food begins to spoil faster than it typically does, there could be a problem. It may be time to have a refrigerator repair or replacement done. Letting a broken fridge continue to run means wasting energy and spending more money on your electric bill and food expenses. While the initial cost of replacing your fridge may seem like a lot, it is worth it, in the long run, to keep your food and electric bills low.

It’s hot to the touch

Refrigerators are supposed to expel some heat from the back. It’s a natural part of the fridge’s ventilation system and is a good sign that it is working properly. However, if the back of your fridge is hot to the touch, there’s a problem. The coils within your fridge should be properly insulated to prevent it from overheating. If your fridge is hot to the touch it may be time to call in the professionals for a refrigerator repair. If the issue is more significant, professionals can also assist in a new refrigerator install.

Your fridge is sweating

If your refrigerator begins to look like it’s sweating, there is likely an issue. Your fridge should be able to maintain a balanced temperature without creating water droplets on the exterior. This could be a sign that the fridge is working either too hard or too little to try and regulate the internal temperature. The same goes for condensation on the interior of the fridge. If your fridge seems to be sweating, it may be time for a new refrigerator install.

If you are unable to fix these issues with a refrigerator repair, it could very well mean that you are in need of a new fridge.  Before you give your fridge the boot, contact the professionals at Doc’s Appliances.
