Guide To Maintaining Your Cooking Range

Docs Appliance • May 8, 2019

Your cooking range can be used multiple times in a day. Since it is used on a daily basis, it is essential to clean and maintain it in order to avoid costly repairs. Timely maintenance also provides a long life for your cooking range. Spills are bound to happen when you are cooking, so you should also be sure to clean up spills promptly to prevent damage to any electrical components.

Clean It Regularly

You can use soap and water or cooktop cleaning cream to clean your cooktop on a regular basis. It is important NOT to use ammonia based cleaner on a glass top stove.

Depending on how frequently you use it, you may have to clean it more than once during the day. Don’t use abrasive pads or overly-harsh cleaners because they can wear off the decal indicators, which help you identify the knob controls for each burner. You may have to replace the entire unit if the decals get worn off from heavy-duty cleaning.

Solid Burner Element

Some cooking ranges have solid metal heating element burners. These don’t have any coils, and the range isn’t glass or ceramic. It is so much easier to clean these. You can clean these burners using a solid-surface element cleaner. You do have to be careful that hot liquid doesn’t spoil these burners. If you happen to spill some, be sure to clean it immediately.

Cleaning Stainless Steel Cooking Ranges

Some gas stove tops are made of porcelain-coated steel. These can be cleaned the same way as an electric smooth-top cooking range. When you have a cooking range with a stainless steel top, you should clean it with heavy-duty degreaser and a non-abrasive pad. Another thing to keep in mind is not to use too much water while cleaning around the knobs. If water seeps in, it could cause problems with the ignition system. If you have cleaners coming in, you can give them instructions on how to clean your cooking range to avoid such hassles.
